Aloeight Interview

Please introduce yourself to the readership and shortly summarize what your
function is at Plague Language!

Hello, my name is Fredo...also known as Aloeight. I am one of the producers from Plague Language.

What does the name "Aloeight" mean?

Believe it or not, I actually forgot how that name came about but it's probably something super cool.

In how far were you involved in the works of Penny's, Noah's and Barracuda's albums?

I actually didn't produce anything on their albums. I will be having production on Penny's upcoming projects, myself and Rev. Left produced "Birdfish" on Noah's Sigmus Octantis CD, and I definitely plan on producing on upcoming Noah and Baracuda projects. The new Plague Language "Farewell Archetypes" CD is finally out and I produced about 7 beats on that CD.
You can pick that up at:  www.legendaryentertainment.com

When did Plague Language start and can you tell us something about the background?

Hmmm, I'm sure Orphan has told me this before but I forgot the details. All i know is that Orphan and Noah started the label a few years ago.

It's a long time since PL released new material. Why did we hear so few from Orphan, Penny, you and all the other artists?

Well, our last release just came out not too long ago which is the 'Farewell Archetypes' CD. The material on there is pretty old...in fact, those beats are like the first beats I've ever made. Penny
is now working with another label which is bse (beyond space entertainment) and she's working on a lot of good stuff...a new album, a 10" and a female compilation. Noah is selling like 3 or 4 burnt CD's which consists of a lot of new material, old material, rare balogna and freestyles. I
don't know what Baracuda's been up too...he's either on haitus or he's working slowly on some new material. I admit, it's been slow but everyones cooking up some heat. It's hip hop, nothing ever comes out on time haha. 2035, we`re coming with it.

Are there any new artists coming on PL?

Well, PL isn't really a group the way I see it...just a label...and we're definitely going to be working with a lot of different artists on upcoming projects.

Noah's last album was released on vinyl on the German record label 2nd Recordings, "Farewell Archetypes" came out on the German record label Subversiv and Orphan's new album will be released on CD in the UK and on vinyl in Germany. Why aren't you guys releasing this stuff in the U.S. and on your own label?

Hmm, good question...beats me. But if I were to make an assumption, it's just a money issue at the moment. Orphan usually handles everything. He just moved to the Bay Area not too long ago sooo i guess he's just trying to get settled down before he starts releasing material through PL again.

Do you know about the reputation of PL in Europe in Asia ?

No clue. Hopefully they love me and will be sending me candy and DVD's very soon.

Is there maybe a bigger "fanbase" and acceptance towards different sounds and types of music than in the U.S, because I read an interview with Kegs in which he stated that most of the stuff he sells in his online shop goes out to Europe and Asia.

I guess so, I know japan is really big on hip hop. Maybe the people out there are just simply loyal fans and actually like to purchase the material rather than downloading it.

Are there any plans for coming on tour to Europe ?

Not that I know of. I think Noah has done a show out in Europe so i'm sure he'd like to again in the future.

You produced 2 tracks on NgaFsh's latest album "Kill 'em all" ["Iz u ready?" and
"Oh my god"]. How did this collaboration happen?

I met NgaFsh in San Jose at the Clout Magazine show. He took down my address so he could send me his sampler from "Kill `em All" album and he asked me to send a beat CD back to him when I receive the CD with his address.

Is there any new material from you and Fsh in the works?

Oooh yea, definitely. At the moment, he has about 4 beats from me that he's writing to. If you've purchased the "Kill `em All" album, there's a coupon on the back which is good for a free
CD. Just send that back to fish and you'll recieve the free CD once it's finished. The free CD will consist of around 14 new tracks and I produced one of the songs on there which features NgaFsh/Ceschi/Penny. I've heard 3 cuts from the free CD and they're all really really dope.
Sometime in the future, I hope to do a 12" or even an EP with fish. I'd like this project to sound waaay different from his other material.

Will there be a solo album from you and what are the next projects you are working on?

I don't plan on releasing a solo instrumental project any time soon. Right now i'm working on a project with Ceschi (Anonymous inc/toca). I'm producing the entire album and Ceschi will be on vocals as well as a bunch of guests. So far, it will be featuring: NgaFsh, Penny, Topic and probably Xololanxinco.

Which equipment do you use for your productions?

I use software...i've been using Acid Pro and Soundforge.

Do you have a typical approach when you create a new beat?

I like trying to create interesting drums. I try new things everytime I make a beat and i also try to make my beats sound different from one another...I want my beats to have different vibes.

How long are you producing and what are are your influences?

Hmm, about 4 or 5 years now. My influences would probably be RZA, DJ Shadow, OD, Amon Tobin, Candy and Mike Tyson.

Are there any artists you would like to work with in the future?

Yea definitely. I think one of the biggest joys of producing is working with other artists. Some people i'd like to work with would be Mikah9, Lyrics Born, Pterradacto, Radioinactive,
Busdriver, Vixen, Dave Dub, Butterfly Swift, Peace, Pigeon John, OD, Big Juss...just to name a few.

Which producers do you like?

OD, Amon Tobin, DJ Shadow, Deeskee, Joe Dub, Sixtoo, Moodswing9, Rev. Left, Orphan, K-The-I, Suspended Animators, Emynd, RJD2, El-P and the list goes on...

What was the first record you bought and what are your latest purchases?

My first hip hop CD was actually MC Hammer haha. I haven't purchased anything in awhile...I think the last thing I picked up was the latest Ghostface CD.

How do we have to imagine a typical day in the life of the infamous Aloeight?

I go to school and I absolutely hate it. I spend time with my girlfriend, we watch A LOT of movies. My favorite movie at the moment would probably be HERO starring Jet Li. Beautiful movie. I hang out with my friends are the weirdest motherfuckers alive. I love going out on roadtrips or any kind of trip for that matter...i'm going to Oahu in september. I'm a fan of
kung fu films and fried chicken.

When you turn on music television these days and you see all those party rap and soft hip hop/rnb mix, dancing in the "cluuuub" like zombies, do you think that some part of hip hop dies with that behaviour of the concerning artists or are you 100 percent cool with that? Most of the so called "underground artists" state at interviews that they have no problems with a 50cent or some other popular rappers of today, but it's hard to believe.

It's sad to see what hip hop has become. Hip hop was way better back then. I was just watching a “Leaders Of The New School” music video the other day and I was just thinking "what happened?"  I like to keep an open mind with music though and there's definitely talented artists in the mainstream. I think Jay-Z is dope, 50cent is okay, Twista's dope, Kanye West is dope...I especially enjoy his production.

A lot of people are hating Anticon and any related artist or music that sounds similar to that. For them this is not what they consider as rap-music. What is your opinion about today's disputes about the so called "emo rap"?

I believe that there's no boundaries to hip hop. Maybe some people wouldn't consider it hip hop but it's hip hop influenced. Call it what you want but if it's dope then it's dope. I also think too
many people out there are trying to hard. Like being emo is the freshest thing ever. A lot of new artists I hear are garbage...they just sound like Greenthink/cLouddead clones.

Anything else you want to say?

Thanks a lot for the interview!
